Sentosa Island Singapore – Asia’s Favorite Playground

I vividly remember my visit to the Sentosa Island Singapore. I simply love how some of these countries have dedicated whole islands for tourists, isolating the destination from the city life and the pollution that comes along with the urban lifestyle.

Sentosa Island Singapore has progressed a long way since its inception in 1972. Anyone who has visited the island would agree with my claim of Sentosa Island Singapore being one of the most wonderful places to visit in Asia.

Beaches

The Sentosa Island Singapore hosts three of the most amazing beaches in the region, Palawan Beach, Siloso Beach and Tanjong Beach

In the centre of the vast and expansive southern coast of Sentosa Island Singapore, lies the Palawan Beach. Upon the first footprint on the warm sands of Palawan Beach, the gentle yet firm sea breeze had a blinding effect. The beach was filled with a diverse group of tourist, some swimming, few sunbathing while others mingling at the minimalist bars, complementing the natural beauty of the terrain. The best part was the shared sense of wonder over the gorgeous beach.
The western portion of the southern coast, Siloso Beach attracts tourists more inclined towards physical outdoor activities, such as, canoeing, mountain biking, beach volleyball, skim boarding and the list goes on. Siloso beach has a more urban feel, with food courts and shopping outlets dominating the area.
The crescent shaped beach, Tanjong Beach is much more secluded then its counterparts on the southern coast. This part of the coast is mostly used for private parties and special events.

MegaZip Adventure Park

The adventure park is the first of its kind in Singapore, atop Mount Imbiah. The park hosts Asia’s longest and steepest zip wires. Although, the park has several other activities which are impeccable in their own right, for example, a freefall simulator, an ultimate physical challenge course. But none can compare to the extreme zip line experience, the 450 meter long, 75 meter high, an adrenaline junkie’s idea for heaven.

Finally, I was strapped in, heart throbbing, blood rushing, and a thought crept up, all this before the experience even started, within a second it had vanished, along with me into the madness. I sped over the gorgeous lush green canopy jungles of Mount Imbiah. And across the greens were the emanating sands of Siloso Beach, swallowed up by the warm embrace of the clear waters.

It was one heck of an amazing experience. The sights were seared into my mind for the coming eternity. They say that a person is capable of taking only a few things through that unknown transition that awaits us all. Well, when I say this, I say it with certainty, this experience was one of those things that can even outlast time itself.

Mekong Delta – The River of Nine Dragons

Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, also known as its ‘rice bowl’ is a beautiful scenic landscape, carpeted in myriad shades of green and surrounded with grand waterways. Dubbed as Vietnam’s biological treasure trove, the delta’s unexplored terrains have been home to over 10,000 new species.

There are simply so many interesting and amazing things to do outdoors in Vietnam, it’s no wonder that the Mekong Delta is so frequently visited.

A trip to the Mekong Delta will be a completely new experience for you and it will open you up to a world you have only seen on TV before.

The delta is a water world…literally, it has restaurants, houses, and even markets that are floating upon the Delta’s rivers, canals, and streams. Now that’s something you only see in futuristic movies, but it becomes oh so real in the Mekong Delta.

My trip to Mekong Delta was really amazing. I have had a lot of adventures in Vietnam, but this one tops the list. Just after breakfast at Saigon, our bus picked us up and we traveled to My Tho. From there, we set off on a cruise of the Tien River, and rejoiced in the view of the four lovely islands that we saw: Dragon Island, Unicorn Island, Turtle Island, and Phoenix Island.

This cruise was the highlight of the trip in my opinion, as we saw natural beauty aplenty on the islands. We also experienced the tranquil local villages around and saw many rural people working the rice fields. All this was quite simple and ordinary, yet we saw beauty in it. And yes, we did take pictures. We snapped several pictures of the amazing fisherman’s port and its stilt houses.

We had some local tropical fruits, and they were not only juicy but delicious too. After a little time, we found ourselves climbing into a small sampan boat, and were handed cute conical hats as well. We cruised through the serene waterways and canals in our sampan boat while soothing our ears with local folk music. The man rowing the sampan boat demonstrated his rowing skills as he moved the boat through the groves of water coconut trees.

We were taken to a bee farm, where there was a small market with items such as sunglasses, clothes, souvenirs etc. The time spent at the bee farm was really full of fun; we tried natural honey produced on the bee farm which was yummy. We also tasted the honey tea, which had some grains at the bottom, and was very delicious and sweet.

The boat stopped at too many shops, souvenir stands, and agricultural sites on its way forward on the Mekong Delta.

We took break for lunch and dined in at a local restaurant where we got to ate fresh spring rolls, rice, curries, grilled fish, fresh fruits, and more. Also, we got half an hour to ourselves to relax around in hammocks, and we enjoyed this part a great deal, before we set off with the tour to discover the rest of the natural bounties of the delta.

Then came the fun part, where we rode on motor carts to roam around the roads and down the jungle lanes. After a while, we headed to the coconut candy factory, which gave a true tourist feeling to us. At the factory we were offered coconut wine and we saw the production of sticky coconut candy. Then we headed back to the water once more to reach the mainland. The delta has quite a lot to charm its visitors with.

The name of the Mekong Delta literally translates as “River of Nine Dragons” and is home to nine tributaries that flow like arteries throughout the delta. It is a majestic place, and if you ever go to Vietnam, you must visit it.

Enjoying Thailand street food is one of my favorite activities in Bangkok. It is tough not to locate a street bend with a chain of handcarts aligned dishing out food like noodle broth, BBQ chicken, beef cakes and appetizing fried fish. Makes your mouth water, doesn’t it?

So if you really have a desire to enjoy the splendid Thailand street food, then you should definitely saunter towards the end of the Khao San Road, make a turn to the right, go past the police post conflicting the Wat and Soi Rambuttri and behold the many different street stands and pushcarts.

Soi 38 Sukumvhit

In Soi 38 Sukumvhit you will dine on the road at a shaky metal stand with cars escaping the pushcarts and stands that are lined up along the street and the rare friendly dog trotting by looking expectantly for some leftovers.

There is an abundance of culinary options all along this hectic road. This Thailand street food is delicious, economical and arrives quickly. In addition to that most menus are written in English which makes ordering your favorite dish trouble free.

Besides the street food stands, those located on Soi 38 are very clean and the components used to create the dishes are fresh.

Korean Cuisine – Wonderful Tastes of Great Food

Looking back on it now, I think it was very funny that my wife, she was my girlfriend at the time, really enjoyed going to the few Korean restaurants in Jerusalem. The people were lovely, and the food was certainly unique to the region! There are many Koreans living in Israel so it wasn’t so much a surprise to find Korean Cuisine there, but it was inspiring how good it tasted!

The Korean cuisine have a distinct sense of flavors and spices. Due to the geographic traits of the Korean Peninsula, the people have enjoyed the products of mountains, seas, and fields for centuries. They consider food to be of higher importance than merely something that fills our belly, it is a source of nutrition and medicine for them.

The biggest trait of the Korean cuisine is probably the use of spices.

They season their food with peppers, bean paste, soy sauce etc. Being a traveler and a foodie, one of my favorite activities is trying the local cuisines of the places I go to.

Here are a few dishes you must try when in Korea:

Soft-Tofu Stew (Soondubu Jiggae)

This is one of the staple foods of Korean Cuisine! This soup is absolutely amazing! Its consistency is thicker than that of a soup, but it’s still much thinner than something like porridge.

It is a mixture of beef and fish stock as the base to strengthen the flavor, topped with silken tofu, shellfish, eggs (optional) and hot pepper. They add only a small amount of beef to keep it light instead of making it filling – keeping it light is the cornerstone of all Korean food.

Rice Cake Street Food (Ddukbokkie)

One of the most famous of Korean Cuisine are street foods of the country is ddukbokkie.

Its smell crawls through the busy streets of all big Korean cities. Almost all the vendors cook a slightly different version so a lot of varieties are available for all sorts of taste buds. It is made usually with rice cakes and vegetables soaked in a sweet and spicy sauce. The rice cakes become absolutely divine once they are dipped in the soup!

Seasoned Fried Chicken (Yangnyeom Tongdak)

Everybody enjoys a deep fried chicken leg once in a while, but I doubt you have tried the Korean version. It is marinated in a sweet, spicy, and sticky red sauce and fried till the crust is hard and crunchy making it a uniquely Korean Cuisine dish.

I have simply never had tastier chicken in my entire life, and that’s coming from a man who has eaten entire poultry farms (not in one sitting though). There are no words that could explain the taste; you will have to try this one for yourself if you want to believe me.

Stir-Fried noodles (Japchae)

Korean food is not just limited to Korea. One of the dishes that the world has accepted as a great restaurant meal is Japchae. The original Japchae was a royal dish, invented by the King’s chefs.

It was made without noodles. Later on, the recipe evolved, sweet potato starch noodles were added which gave the dish a unique chewy texture. Lightly cooked vegetables make this dish wholesome, hearty, and a delight to consume.

Fermented Cabbage (Kimchi)

The national dish of Korean Cuisine, Kimchi, is an important dish that is widely used. It is basically fermented cabbage marinated leaf-by-leaf with spices. It is then used as a base for numerous Korean dishes. Leaving it in the refrigerator for two-three days enhances its flavor and gives it a tangy and sour taste. Korean food is the new hype around the world, as more and more people become exposed to it and the demand of Korean Cuisine outlets rise. If you are a fan of exotic cuisine and would love to try new things, Korea is the right place for you.

Day Trip to Mahachai – Relaxers Paradise Galore

When you want to escape the hustle bustle of the day to day life of Bangkok there is no place better then a Day Trip to Mahachai. Situated approximately forty-five kilometers south-west of Bangkok, the town has a soothing effect on you.

Mahachai is so not the town for you if you want to go fishing or gambling. It is where you go to do nothing and for no specific time period.

You visit Mahachai when you just want to enjoy the cool and refreshing ocean breeze. That is exactly what I did, a Day Trip to Mahachai. And it was marvelous! Taking a ferry across the river I looked at the beautiful floats and all that the town had to offer.

The market itself is very astounding. Sporting a wide variety of crabs, fish, and other wriggling species out of the sea the market is one of a kind. The air is thick with a strong smell of fish and the sounds of vendors calling people to their stands.

It seems that the railway and the market grew around each other. Merchants have to move their merchandise off the train tracks as the train approaches the station. You are bound to get lost in the hustle bustle of this market.

This market is a fish lover’s dream come true. The assortment of fish on sale over here is mind-blowing. Squids are particularly celebrated in the market. Every fish stall sports different types of squid, neatly displayed according to sizes and grade. A stall was selling dried squid. Packed in a bag you could enjoy it while roaming around the market.

When every making a day trip to Mahachai, you may also see a faction of monks, clad in their most excellent orange ritual robes, stepping on the ferry to take them to the opposite side of the waterway. We passed by both the Thai and Chinese sanctuaries, and witnessed the various collections from the ocean in enormous quantities.

After strolling through the market we all felt hungry and so after looking for a restaurant we all agreed to dine in at Ran Ahan Pi, an ancient restaurant, famous mainly for its delectable seafood.

Entire varieties of Thai seafood, as well as a number of exceptional house-made fortes, were displayed on the restaurant’s menu.

The eatery proprietor is recognized to possess quite a personality, and according to the story we were told by the locals, when anyone ordered rice with omelets, he would become really angry and would tell the consumer to leave his restaurant. The lesson of the story being that when you go to a seafood restaurant, you order only seafood. No chicken and definitely no eggs.

We finally decided to order the shrimp covered in chili powder, lime juice and fish paste, squid which was stir fried in the company of salted egg yolks, in addition to a crunchy deep-fried bass dished up with acerbic green mango pulp as the side. The whole lot of food we ordered was fresh and tasty.

After an awesome Day Trip to Mahachai Fish Market and an appetizing dinner we finally decided to go back to our hotel room to fall into a deep slumber.

Pulau Ubin – The Perfect Island For A Getaway

A small tranquil island located in Singapore, blessed abundantly with flora and fauna, is the gorgeous Pulau Ubin, which dazed me with its natural beauty. I had read good reviews about the island, hence it was on my list of places to visit, when I went for a short getaway to Singapore. The small island turned out to be as beautiful as I had expected.

To get to Pulau Ubin, I took a bumboat from the Changi Point Ferry Terminal.

I didn’t have to wait for long as bumboats leave for Pulau Ubin quite frequently, once they get filled with their twelve passenger limit. Just when I arrived at Pulau Ubin, I went off to the information kiosk which was conveniently located beside the jetty, and got hold of a free map of the lovely island.

When I began to gaze at the beauty around me, it didn’t fail to leave me in awe.

I then moved to look at what the taxi kiosk offered, and just behind the taxi stand, I saw Ubin Town which was a very small village with old wooden buildings, bike rental shops, and simple restaurants too. It seemed like a scene dated back many years ago.

I decided to explore the area around the jetty that led me to the sensory trail. This is a serene trail that displays a myriad of plants, planted side by side in a line. When my walk ended, I decided to have my lunch as I was really hungry, so I headed to Ubin Town for lunch.

Ubin Town had quite a few restaurants for its visitors; I chose a seafood restaurant next to the sea and had tasty fried rice and eggs with fish. Finally I decided to rent a bike to explore the island. I smoothly cycled along the main road, crossing simple Singaporean houses and tall coconut trees on my way. The island evoked a serene feeling in me, and made me forget the hustle bustle of my town.

After some time cycling, I saw the turn to Chek Jawa, so I decided to go that way. Only after a short while, the gravel track came my way, making cycling a little tough, as the path was winding uphill, and eventually it turned too steep, that I decided to walk for some time.

After an hour or more, I finally reached Chek Jawa, Singapore’s famous wetland reserve and took a short break from cycling and sat down under a shady tree for some rest. At Chek Jawa, there were two boardwalks and a jetty as well. I moved along the coastal boardwalk that ended up at the shoreline of Chek Jawa.

Once on the boardwalk, I truly felt enveloped in the aura and tranquility round me, breathing in fresh air, and seeing the high tide around. I even took interesting pictures of colorful fiddler crabs and mudskippers near the mangrove swamp. After a long time on the boardwalk, I decided to head back.

I think the beautiful island of Pulau Ubin, far from the noise and crowd of the city life, is a perfect place for a getaway. I had a great time on the island, which truly rejuvenated my soul. I would recommend this lovely island to everyone who is seeking a quiet, relaxing place in Singapore.

Hue Vietnam – Experiencing The Crown Jewel of Asia

Hue, a jewel in the crow of Vietnam, a place showcasing the past of the Vietnamese feudal empire, resonates with Vietnam’s glorious past. Think of palaces and pagodas, history, tombs and temples, all encapsulated in one city, then only will you be able to understand how glorious Hue really is.

Hue Vietnam, undoubtedly has a lot to offer to its visitors.

Its buildings that are remnant of its past stand proudly, demonstrating the power of Vietnamese emperors of yore, and continue to attract lots of tourists from around the world.

The charm of Hue Vietnam arises from the fact that it is located on the Perfume River, which presents a scenic view at all times. When I visited Hue, it seemed to me to be a blend of its past and present, as there were luxurious hotels surrounding the worn Citadel walls, yet efforts that are made to preserve the grandeur of the city were quite visible too.

When I reached Hue Vietnam, I decided to visit some of the pagodas and tombs of the emperors that were at the south of Hue.

I noticed that almost all the sites in Hue are located around the fortified Citadel, which has also been claimed as a World Heritage Site.

I walked along the Trang Tien Bridge to see the gloried Citadel, also known as the Imperial City. It was absolutely stunning and I just fell in love with the brilliance of its architecture. The Citadel has a prominent tall flag tower, along with ten ornate gates guarding its grand palace. This ancient place was just magnificent.

I also visited the Thien Mu Pagoda, which is between a river nd a pine forest. The golden Buddha near it was quite fascinating for me. The Pagoda had seven tiers, and presented amazing architecture.

Then I went to visit the tomb where Emperor Khai Dinh was buried, and this was a truly beautiful tomb. It had bejeweled walls and its high rising ceilings were also decorated quite intricately. I actually took a lot of time to explore this beautiful tomb in its entirety. This tomb had a life size statue of the emperor as well and an incredible site in Hue Vietnam.

One of the best places to visit in Hue Vietnam turned out to be the Vinh Moc tunnels. Vietnam had been at war with the Chinese, Americans, and French in the past; hence its buildings are all full of stories to leave its visitors enthralled. This tunnel was built for protection, and it felt eerie when I entered them. I just can’t imagine how the Vietnamese soldiers could have lived in these tunnels for years and years.

The trip to Hue would have been incomplete had I not visited Vietnam’s largest marketplace. Buzzing with tourists, the market had the famous conical hats, souvenirs, bronze good, sesame sweetmeat and much more for everyone. It’s so huge that it is very easy to get lost; in essence it is a shopper’s paradise. It was one of the craziest markets that I have seen in my life; however it was more for locals than for visitors like me.

But that is what I like the most, that local atmosphere.

The trip to Hue was like a trip back in Vietnam’s historical times. I really enjoyed each bit of. It was quite exquisite, and I would recommend Hue, to everyone who goes to visit Vietnam. You just can’t miss this historical masterpiece in Vietnam.

In my opinion, Lotte World is the best place for entertainment and sightseeing in South Korea. This entertainment packed place has so much to offer especially if you want to explore plenty within limited time.

The place is popular among foreigners, as well as local residents with nearly 6,000,000 people visiting every year to enjoy the rides, ice skating, shopping and eating.

With its amusement park, sports center, shopping center, and folk museum, I can guarantee that this place can add thrill and relishing memories to your trip.

Lotte World is divided into the ‘Adventure Land’ and ‘Magic Island’.

The indoor Adventure Land features districts, each representing different country with various facilities and souvenir shops. Laser shows, parades, films and a wide range of international cuisines are the key highlights of these districts.
